Appearing in Court

Offenses for which you must appear in court:

Traffic Violations:
  • Any offense for which you are told to personally appear by the arresting officer or court personnel.
  • Anyone who does not pay before his/her 60 day period must contact the court for a court appearance date at least 5 days before the end of the 60 days.

Failure to appear or failure to pay will result in license suspension until the case is cleared, and/or a warrant being issued for your arrest. A default judgment may be entered if you fail to appear.

When you appear in Court…

Persons receiving tickets that require a Court appearance, or persons who do not wish to resolve the case by pleading guilty and paying the assessed fine should be aware of the following:

  1. Payment must be made in the form of cash, money order, cashier’s check, or certified check. Company and personal checks are not accepted.
  2. Persons may call the office of the Plainfield Town Court. However, wait at least ten (10) days after receiving a ticket to ensure the Court staff has the information on file.

Persons must appear in Court on the date shown on the bottom of the ticket, which is an initial hearing date, not a trial date.

Business casual dress is required to be worn for Court appearances. Tank tops; hats and caps; and ripped, torn, dirty or revealing clothing are not appropriate. Anyone dressed in such attire may be asked to leave and return when dressed appropriately. Attorneys are required to wear appropriate court apparel with tie and jacket.
